How to find a reputable goldendoodle breeder

Choosing a good goldendoodle breeder is hard to do. There are a lot of decisions to make when picking a breeder and a puppy. First you have to know if a goldendoodle is right for you. After deciding that you
want to get a goldendoodle puppy you should know how to find a good breeder. I already wrote about what to look out for when buying a goldendoodle, and hobby breeders so now I will tell you how to find the best goldendoodle breeder

If you are looking for a good goldendoodle breeder there are three things you should look for that will put you on the right track.

How to find a good Goldendoodle Breeder

Positive referrals on the website
If a breeder has been breeding for a long time then they should have a
list of referrals from their previous customers. If it appears that a breeder has been breeding for a long time but they don't have any referrals then ask them why. A good breeder cares about their customer and will usually offer a health guarantee and continue communication after selling the puppy.

Positive comments on other websites
Well known goldendoodle breeders will be talked about on other websites and forums.
Do a quick search on google for the kennel name and try to find comments left by others. Remember though, some people will be jealous of others success, so if you find mean comments about a breeder, be
sure to get them to clarify.

A clean kennel
The best goldendoodle breeders should care about their customers and their kennels. When buying from a kennel ask if you can see the kennel and the parents of the puppy.

If you follow these tips you should find a breeder who has positive referrals on their website, good things said about them on other sites, healthy happy dogs, and a clean well kept kennel. If you find all of those in a goldendoodle breeder then you can be sure that you have found a good breeder.

The hobby goldendoodle breeder

After deciding if a goldendoodle is right for you, you will want to
find a good goldendoodle breeder that will provide you with a happy,
healthy goldendoodle puppy. Choosing a breeder can be difficult so in
this article I will tell you the pros and cons of buying from a hobby
breeder and buying from a well known goldendoodle. In a future post I
will explain how to tell if a goldendoodle breeder is reputable.

I have already written about how to spot a bad goldendoodle breeder,
so now I will tell the differences between a hobby breeder and a
breeder who breeds as a business.

Hobby dog breeders
These breeders love their dogs and they usually have them living in
the home with them. They may have a job and they breed their pet for
extra income. Hobby breeders are usually stay at home moms, or people
with part time jobs. The dogs will be cared for, looked after and
healthy.

These breeders will usually sell their goldendoodle breeders for a
decent price, somewhere between $600 and $1000. They can afford to do
this because they do not need a kennel for their dog, they only feed a
few dogs who are pets anyways, and they typicaly do not do health
tests on the breeding stock or puppies. When they have a litter they
raise them and sell them and that is it.

The downfalls of buying from hobby breeders.

Hobby breeders typically breed for some extra money. They don't put a
lot of money into their pets and usually will not doing any tests on
the parents. This means they could be unknowingly breeding dogs that
have known genetic problems like hip dysplasyia.

Another thing to look out for is the parents. Goldendoodles share the
personality of a poodle and golden retriever. Some breeders use dogs
that do not have their papers, so your doodle may be more than half
poodle and half golden retriever!

Goldendoodle breeders - what to look out for

When looking for goldendoodle puppies for sale it is important to look
for the best goldendoodle breeders. There are three common types of
breeders, puppy mills / backyard breeders ( a puppy mill in the
making), hobby breeders, and professional breeder who have a
registered kennel and run it as a business. Below I will explain how
to spot a backyard breeder or puppy mil

Backyard breeders / puppy mills - these goldendoodle breeders are
looking for a quick buck, they don't really care about the health of
the dogs or the state of the kennel. Their main purpose is to produce
goldendoodle puppies and sell them. They will typically not take their
dogs to the vet unless it is life or death. They will also feed the
cheapest dog food to their dogs, and not give them regular exercise.
Here are a few signs of backyard breeders, and things to loom out for
Lots of puppies for sale, they always have puppies available for sale.
This is because they have a lot of dogs and breed them in every heat
Many breeds of dogs for sale
Many goldendoodle breeders may offer doodles and mini doodles, but if
the also have schnoodles, pomipoos, chipoos, pugapoos, malipoos and
all kinds of other breeds, look out!
They want to meet you somewhere
Puppy mills don't want you to see their kennel, they will meet you
somewhere to sell you the puppy. Good breeders will allow you to see
their kennel.
Cheap puppies
If your are getting a cheap goldendoodle then you should be asking
questions. There are a lot of costs involved in breeding
goldendoodles. Vet bills, food bills, health tests, vaccinations,
advertising, electricity and more. Puppy mills will produce a lot of
puppies as cheap as they can and sell them for whatever they can get.
Most reputable breeders sell their puppies for $1000 - $2000. You may
be able to get a goldendoodle for cheaper from a hobby breeder, which
I will talk about in another article.

Goldendoodle Prices

Prices of Goldendoodles

Goldendoodle
Goldendoodle

Goldendoodle prices vary depending on breeders. I will break down the basics in this post but for more information you can visit my pages How much is a Goldendoodle and Where to buy a Goldendoodle

Typical Goldendoodle prices from a breeder range from $500 - $1500 if you choose to buy your goldendoodle from a premium breeder you could pay upwards of $2000. The advantages of buying from a premium goldendoodle breeder is knowing that your puppy came from healthy parents, having a health guarantee with your puppy, having your puppy ready with shots, vaccinations and micro chipped. Premium goldendoodle breeders should be doing health checks on all of their breeding dogs and providing health guarantees for their puppies.

Be Careful If you choose to buy your goldendoodle puppy for cheap, or off of a classified site I recommend researching the breeder before buying. This way you are not supporting bad breeding practices and mistreatment of animals. If the breeder will not let you see the parents, or is hesitant to show you their kennel this should be a red flag. Breeders should not be ashamed of their breeding dogs or kennel.

Mini Goldendoodle

A Mini goldendoodle is a golden retriever bred with a mini or toy poodle. The breeding does not happen naturally, it must be done with artificial insemination. This is a picture of a Mini Goldendoodle Puppy

This mini goldendoodle picture was used from this Mini Goldendoodle site

Mini goldendoodles are usually about knee height, they are not lap dogs or toy dogs. If you get a miniature goldendoodle you should do a lot of research. Miniature goldendoodles can be high energy and like to have exercise. They are great with kids and other dogs and have awesome personalities. If you are looking for a breeder you can take a look at my breeder page or look up swissridgegoldendoodles
